Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, sits off the mainland on an island in the Persian (Arabian) Gulf. There is plenty to see in Abu Dhabi including the Grand Mosque, Ferrari World and Yas Island. Abu Dhabi is less than 2 hours from Dubai. Abu Dhabi is relatively mild in January with average temperatures of 18°C and highs of 24°C in the peak of the day. At night the temperature dips to a low of 12°C, so you’ll need to pack a few layers to stay warm on evenings out.

The eagle eyed ones would have spotted that the flights leave Ireland on the 10th of January and leave the UAE in the early hours of the 17th of January, which technically is 7 nights, not 6 that I have suggested. You can either pay for the extra night in the hotel, which I haven’t included in the overall cost or you could leave your bags at the hotel and go exploring for the day. You’ll be checking in for your flight home at 11 pm on the 16th of January anyway so the choice is up to you.
The hotel is the 5* Grand Millennium Al Wahda Abu Dhabi, which is rated a very good 8.5 out of 10 with guests from Booking.com. This hotel is located right beside Al Wahda Shopping Mall. This property offers panoramic views of Abu Dhabi and has a pool, a fitness centre and a spa on site. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable.
