Drawing inspiration from the day trip I did to Glasgow on Saturday, here is a list of weekend day trips to Christmas Markets in England. For those who haven’t done one, a day trip is exactly how it sounds by spending the day in another place. Generally it’s done by taking the first flight out and last flight back, giving you a few hours to explore a city without having to pay for a hotel stay.
London is home to a number of Christmas Markets, but the one I’ll be focusing on is the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland. Winter Wonderland is of the biggest Christmas markets in London with more than 100 wooden cabins and the UK’s biggest outdoor ice rink, a Giant Observation Wheel and top Winter Wonderland Christmas shows.
Birmingham, known as the second city, is home to the Frankfurt Christmas Market, which is the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria. The market is located in on Victoria Square and offers a large range of traditional good and gifts and a selection of tempting food and drink.
Manchester was the first Christmas Market in Britain and is also considered the best. There are over 300 stalls in different Christmas Markets across the city with Albert Square being the main market hub. If you want to learn more about Manchester Christmas Markets, check out the Visit Manchester page here Manchester Christmas Markets.
Liverpool’s Christmas Market features food stalls selling Yorkshire pudding wraps, German sausages, dipped pretzels and crepes. The event is also usually home to the iconic Windmill, Teepee tent, Barrel Bar and an Alpine lodge which serve a range of festive drinks. If you want to find out more, here is an article from the Liverpool Echo.
You might notice there is a lack of day from Shannon and Belfast etc. this is down to flight times and/or flight prices.
The flights in each case are with Ryanair. As it’s only a day trip, I haven’t added priority with an extra cabin bag and this will cost extra. A small cabin bag that fits under the seat is included.
