Vienna, Austria’s capital, lies in the country’s east on the Danube River. Its artistic and intellectual legacy was shaped by residents including Mozart, Beethoven and Sigmund Freud. The city is also known for its Imperial palaces, including Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs’ summer residence.
Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia and is set along the Danube River by the border with Austria and Hungary. Bratislava is an 18th century Old Town with cycling trails and famous for its nightlife. The reconstructed Bratislava Castle overlooks the Old Town and the Danube.

The train between Vienna and Bratislava takes just over an hour and leaves Vienna a number of times during the day. The cost of the train is just under €11 per person on Trainline.com.
